The School of Health and Human Development offers innovative courses that are delivered by highly skilled academic staff who are nationally and internationally recognized experts in their fields. Through a wide range of degree programs: Medical Laboratory Science, Nursing, Pharmacy Technology, Midwifery, Physiotherapy, Nutrition and dietary, our commitment to excellence is demonstrated through our leading-edge research and community partnerships to improve health outcomes both locally and globally. In addition, students benefit from learning opportunities beyond the classroom to include experiential education in a range of settings from laboratories to hospitals thanks to our community partners which have the best hospitals in the country. 

Our graduates are trained to be leading entrepreneurs. Still, they can find jobs in reputable sectors including community care, diagnostic medicine, public health, environmental health, health promotion, medical research, medicine nursing, paramedicine, pharmacy, psychology and clinical counselling.

We offer a Higher National Diploma (HND) and BSc in Health Science with an emphasis on the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to function in today’s complex and evolving healthcare environment. The program prepares our students to work in the emerging healthcare world.

HND PROGRAMS IN HEALTH SCIENCES (3 YEARS)

NURSING

This training aims to put on the market in the employment of professionals able to analyze a situation of health, to make decisions within the limits of their competence and to conduct interventions alone or in a multidisciplinary team.

PHYSIOTHERAPY

The objective of the training is to give the student knowledge to ensure the rehabilitation of people suffering from physical paralysis, respiratory problems or rheumatism and trauma.

HEALTH CARE MANAGEMENT

The overall goal of the program is to produce a competent and professional health manager who will improve the health workforce, workplace, and health resources for the use of health care consumers.

MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENCES

This training aims to produce executives able to detect by laboratory tests, the various pathologies that can affect the human body.

NUTRITION AND DIETETICS

This specialty aims to train nutrition professionals who can apply nutrition science to the nutrition and education of individuals and groups, whether they are healthy or ill.

HEALTH SANITARY INSPECTOR

 The mission of HSI program is to train highly qualified Health Sanitary Inspectors capable of inspecting, evaluating and planning high quality healthy environment in diverse settings locally, nationally and internationally.

PHARMACY

This three-year specialty aims to train highly qualified pharmacy technicians who are able to participate in the design, manufacture, administration and storage of drugs under the direction of a pharmacist and provide high quality holistic pharmaceutical care in various clinical, industrial and academic contexts at the local, national or international level.

MIDWIFERY

The HND specialty Midwifery aims to train of occupational health with a mission to accompany the pregnant women throughout their pregnancy, the establishment of the diagnosis until the day of the delivery, to animate the sessions of preparation for childbirth and ensure only the childbirth, to deal with the new-born and if necessary to perform the gestures of resuscitation and monitor the recovery of the mother. The midwife ensures the gynecological of women (prescription and install contraceptives, perineal reduction and drug IVG).

DIRECT BSc PROGRAMS IN HEALTH SCIENCES (4 YEARS)

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN NURSING

The program is aimed at producing highly skilled nurses in response to national needs and in consonance with global standards. With such a polyvalent program, its products at the end of the training should be able to:
1.   Meet up with all nursing challenges, and scientific methods of problem-solving and adapt to modern technologies

2.   Capable of working within a health team with a view to developing nursing activities and skills in providing basic health care to an individual or communities at large.

3.   Competent in the provision of clinical nursing, write and pass nationally set nursing examinations, acquire and use managerial skills in nursing services and be able to impact knowledge on lower grade nurses.

Admission Requirements
To be admitted into the Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Nursing Program, a student must have at least four (grades A-C) Ordinary Level passes and at least two Advanced Level passes, excluding Religion or its equivalents.

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENCE

The program described in this document is aimed at training modern laboratory technologist and scientist capable of meeting up with the current challenges on the field.

Admission Requirements
To be admitted into the first year of a Bachelor of Science Medical Laboratory Sciences (BSMLS), a student must have at least four (grades A-C) Ordinary Level passes and at least two Advanced Level passes, excluding Religion or its equivalents.

The Bachelor of Science program in Public Health at MHISS is designed to produce graduates with an ideal platform for a career in Public Health. It should provide students with a more in-depth knowledge and skills required to deal with a wide range of medical functions.
The School of Health and Human Development offers an undergraduate degree in Public Health Science, which combines a robust curriculum in the natural sciences, laboratory Practice with training in the basic fields of public health. The Public Health Science major provides students with interdisciplinary training that is essential to recognizing and addressing public health issues at the state, national and global levels.

TOP-UP FOR A BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN NURSING

To be admitted into the fourth year (Top-up) for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, a student must have a Higher National Diploma or its equivalents.

TOP-UP FOR BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN PHARMACY TECHNOLOGY

Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Pharmacy Technology is an Under-Graduate engineering course. Pharmacy is the study of the origin, preparation, properties, effects, dosage, and dispensation of medicines. Pharmaceutical engineers are concerned with the transformation of raw materials into valuable products by chemical, biochemical or physical processes.

The Bachelor of Technology course in Pharmacy Technology is involved in the conception, design, construction, and operation of industrial plants in which the above processes take place, increasingly with design at the molecular scale being more and more significant.

The duration of the Bachelor of Technology course in Pharmacy Technology is four years and it is career-orienting in nature.

Admission Requirements
To be admitted into the fourth year (Top-up) for a Bachelor of Technology in Pharmacy Technology, a student must have a Higher National Diploma in Pharmacy Technology or its equivalents.

TOP-UP BACHELOR OF SCIENCE PROGRAM IN MIDWIFERY

To be admitted into the fourth year (Top-up) for a Bachelor of Science in Midwifery, a student must have a Higher National Diploma in Midwifery or its equivalents.

TOP-UP FOR A BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN PHYSIOTHERAPY

The Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy is an undergraduate academic Course in a field of Medical Science known as Physiotherapy. The duration of this Top-up course is one year including internship of 2 months. Physical Therapy Programs provide core skills like manual therapy, therapeutic exercise and the application of electro physical modalities, to the prospective students. The course focuses on the use of physical therapy, massages, physical movements and exercise to improve and cure injuries, deformities and diseases. Physiotherapy doesn’t rely extensively on the use of drugs and medicine. Instead, it relies on the use of physical treatment to improve the situation.
